I don’t really intend for this blog to be movie reviews, but I might as well continue my theme of movies about artists. Frida is truly a great one and I highly recommend it even if you’re not that interested about art.
I went into it knowing very little about Frida Kahlo’s work and life. But at the end you have enormous respect and sympathy for her. She lived with a lot of pain but seemed to have a fire in her belly that could not be put out. She created some remarkable and unique art in her relatively short life.
The movie makes it clear how interwoven her life and art were with her husband, artist/muralist and radical Diego Rivera.
The movie is beautifully filmed and produced. You can sense from watching it, and confirm from the DVD featurettes, that it was truly a labor of love for the crew that helped create it.
